Redeeming the Past
In the past five years Windsor High School's football team has had some talent. None of those teams though have made it to the third round of the playoffs. New head coach Rob Gatrell is changing the style of Windsor from a pass first mentality to a smash and bash running team. This rushing assault will be led by senior running backs Jared Leon and Darrian Roman.
This year's team led by returning quarterback Christian McAlvain, top target Kameron Richardson, and the two leading rushers Leon and Roman will make Windsor's offense very potent and dangerous. Known for his interesting offensive schemes, Windsor brought in former Piner head coach Matt Tomlin to be their new offensive coordinator. Tomlin should make every snap suspenseful. While the offense of Windsor will be lighting up the stat sheet, it should not be over looked that Windsor returns a large core of a defense that on average gave up only 13 points per game. The return of linebackers Taylor Biaggi, Darrian Roman and Brady Stibi will be the key for Windsor's run stopping and blitzing.
The Jaguars have the potential to be a contender, but must not fall into the trap that most Windsor teams fall into; the trap of overconfidence. The seniors on this year's team suffered that fate last year. When the 7-0 Jags overlooked El Molino and were upset.

New Era For Casa Grande
Starting a new era is always tough. When you lose, just on offense, your top passer, Nick Sherry (2,623 passing yards), rusher, Javonie Oden (1038 rushing yards) and best two receiving threats (Makana Garringan and Anthony Poole (combined over 1,400 yards receiving) it can seem like your program would be heading backwards the next season. Not for the Casa Grande Gauchos where successful retooling is a yearly tradition.
This season's Gaucho squad has a lot to live up to given that last year's team won the Sonoma County League. To what may seem like a strange move to some, Casa will be starting sophomore quarterback JuJuan Lawson. But do not forget that in coach Trent Herzog's first year as head coach he started a sophomore quarterback by the name of Nick Sherry, a quarterback who is heading to the University of Las Vegas this fall to play football and that move worked out rather well for coach Herzog's squad.
The Gaucho's also appear to have come into the possession of a talent that could change this year's Sonoma County League race. His name is Elijah Qualls a 6'2 260 Jr RB transfer from Rancho Cordova.

Underlooked Power
Healdsburg High School is a small Division IV school with an
enrollment of 795 students. As a result, the Greyhounds are often seen as the
underdog in the Sonoma County League where every team that they play has a larger student body. This year, teams may overlook Healdsburg at their own peril as coach Tom Kirkpatrick’s squad has the potential to surprise.
Healdsburg’s strength this season will be a sturdy defense and the
return of starting quarterback Max Opperman. Defensively the team should be one
of the top squads in the empire where they are expected to excel in stuffing the
run.
Opperman brings the experience of a starting junior campaign and the
‘hounds will rely on his arm with the departure of running back Carson Seanor
who amassed 1500+ yards rushing last year. In the trenches, the offensive line
got a huge boost this summer from Los Angeles area transfer Luis
Navarro.

enrollment of 795 students.
Navarro.

Changing Of a Culture
I noticed the change immediately, the mentality, the way I thought of Piner was gone in five minutes. I walked into a small class room on the far side of the Piner campus. The Varsity and Jvs were having a meeting about their goals for the season. The biggest thing I noticed in the meeting was a passion of wanting to change the image of Piner. New head coacj John Antonio appears to be making an immediate impact. I watched the Prospectors for most of the afternoon. In the past Piner has been know for some hot headed players. This team looks and feels different. From Varsity to Jv this team wants to be respected in their neighborhood and in Sonoma County. This team has talent, if they can keep it together coach Antonio's squad will shock people.

Arnold Wins it for Windsor
Cameron Arnold taking a swing.
The Windsor Jaguars beat the El Molino Lions 4-3 in nine innings on the backs of Cameron Arnold and Harrison Kauth.
Cameron Arnold had only been out for three weeks since breaking his nose vs Santa Rosa. His first game back and he is already back on track. The first year varsity member had only gotten cleared by his doctor the morning of the game vs El Molino Arnold said. Arnold hit a shot with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth between the shortstop and the third baseman to drive in Brandon Salsedo.

Monty Win's North Coast Section
Montgomery came into the North Coast Section as the number 1 seed in the tournament, tonight they left the tournament as Champions. It was clear from the beginning that this one would be a battle, but no one thought it be as good as it was.
Montgomery as in most games came out well. Strong defense was evident all game long for both sides and was a must. The Vikings used their 6-9 center Ben Freeland to good use early on, giving him the ball for easy put ins. Monty came out early but Las Lomas quickly recovered to bring the score back to within 1. With about 3 minutes to go still in the first after a lay up made by Las Lomas the Las Lomas student section went ballistic. The combined sound of Montgomery and Las Lomas student sections was shaking the gym. This atmosphere made the game feel special. After one the score was 13-12 Monty.
With every growing minute you could tell this game was not going to be a rout by either team but a game people from all over the North and East bay came to see. Zack "woody" Templeton and Quentin Mendoza were on fire for most of the night with shoot and with how easily they could drive. Vikings coach said after the game Woody knew he would be hit. Woody kept at it all night and his and Mendoza's drives and threes were the difference. At Half time the teams went to the locker room Monty up 27-26. Stats at half- Rebounds tied at 12, Assists tied at 7, Steals 2-1 Las Lomas and Blocks 1-1
It was clear all night that each team had their own style, Montgomery is more of a "team" team no one on the Vikings squad is the guy every guy on the court can hurt you. Las Lomas on the other hand has number 25 and he is their team do or die. This became very clear with #25 for Las Lomas got into foul trouble and for most of the second half had 3 fouls and had to be careful on every play, because with out him the Knights would be going no where. The third came down to a battle of threes, both teams hitting their fair share of three's. After three it was 46-42 Monty up.
In the fourth it was the Vikings senior leader ship taking over. It was still a close game though as at one point late in the fourth Las Lomas on a three had taken the lead 51-49, the Knights student section was the loudest all night at this time. The biggest moment of the game was when number 25 went for a layup over Big Ben Freleand and Ben got the charge giving #25 his 4 foul. Late in the game Alec Kobre hit a monster long range three to put monty up for good. Final score 58-51 Montgomery over Las Lomas.
Player of the game was Quentin Mendoza for 12 Points, 5 Rebounds, 4 Assists and also for his shut down defense. Monty Coach said after the game with a couple tears in his eyes " there special, their passion is the same as mine"

Pitching Mastery
Gabe Cramer of Santa Rosa pitched a gem of a game vs El Molino. Cramer a future Stanford Cardinal pitched a complete game, 3 hits, 0 Walks, 0 Runs given up and to top it off a godly 16 strike outs. The impressive thing about his pitching was that as the game got more pressured later on, Cramer started throwing harder and harder blowing the ball past the Lions batters. See as the only run was scored on an error the winning run was Andrew Pasquini in the first inning.
Newman upset By MC
Number 6 seeded Marin Catholic upsets number 3 seeded Cardinal Newman at Newman in the second Round of the North Coast Section playoffs 75-72. In the first quarter of action it seemed Newman was going to roll but in the last 4 minutes of the first quarter Marin Catholic went on a 9-2 run. This run was mainly three point shooting and the play of big man Mike Padovese getting some easy baskets for Marin Catholic. After one it was 13 to 12 Marin Catholic up. The second quarter had one off the biggest events, Senior Xavier McCall for Newman had to leave the game for a couple minutes with an injury. Later after the game I was told by Cardinal Newman Head coach that" Xavier tore a Muscle". You could tell that Xavier was in pain for the rest of the game. The scoring went back and forth at half it was 33 to 26 Marin Catholic up. The stats at half were- 15-12 Rebounds in Newman's favor 12-6 Assists by Marin Catholic, steals were equal at 2 all and blocks at 1.
Newman came out like a team with passion, it finally looked like they wanted to be in this game. The Newman student section on the other was still stunned that Newman was losing. Marin Catholic though all game used a strong defense and press that targeted Bobby and Xavier all night, usually double teaming them when ever they touched the ball even triple teaming. This defense is what was the advantage for Marin Catholic and the key reason for victory. After three it was 51 to 47 Marin Catholic up. With Xavier in foul trouble, sophomore Kenny Love stepped up and grew into what his coaches wanted him to do all year as Kenny said" assert him self." Kenny really seemed to grow up during the third and fourth quarters taking over the Newman offense. The game went into overtime at 67-67. The over time period of 4 minutes was a slug feast . Both teams running down the court shooting and usually making the shot. With 2.8 left on the clock the ball was passed to Andy Noonon who shot from half court but missed. After the game Newman head coach Tom Bonfigli said " that was not my play" After the game Bobby Sharp because of his ankle couldn't walk.
The player of the game was Marin Catholics Sophomore Patrick Conroy with 12 Points, 2 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 1 Steal.

Rain Can't Stop all The Baseball
On a rainy day in Sonoma county there was only one baseball game that was played and that was Maira Carrillo vs Casa Grande played on the all weather field at the Santa Rosa Junior College. Both teams came into the game with high hopes to start of the season 1-0 seeing that this was their first real game of the season.
This game was clear from the start that it would be a test of the elements. It was a steady rain all game long. Casa Grandes pitcher Perez seems to not be comfortable pitching in the rain, Perez gave up 4 runs, 3 hits and 3 walks in the second inning. On the other hand Maria Carrillo pitch devin Breining put on a show going 5 strong and striking out 4, while given up no runs. The pumas added to their lead in the
4th and the 6th innings of singles.
After the second inning Casa Grande look down, but they were not out. In the 6th and 7th innings Casa got a combined 5 runs in those two innings Casa had all the drive in the world but it was to late. Maria Carrillo wins 7-5 in the rain. Pumas are now 1-0 and Casa is 0-1
The play of the game decided by Stomp Sports was Devin Breining

Windsor Falls in First Round
Tuesday night in a strangle lighted gym in the Easy bay area of Pinole, a first round North Coast Section playoff basketball game was going on between 4 seeded Pinole Valley and 13 seeded Windsor. Windsor had the advantage of height all night but Pinole seemed to be the stronger not more talented team.
Coach Kramer pulled a General Lee at Pinole High School Tuesday night and ended up with the same fate. The Jaguars inside game had seemingly stalled in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, however it had successfully put two of the Spartan top scorers on the bench with 4 fouls at the 6 mininute mark in the third leaving the Spartans paint players wanting. Instead of staying the course, Kramer decided to bring in the air force and go over the top of the Spartan defense. It was clear the the Windsor airforce was unsure of battle tatics...Kramer shouting directions from the sideline. The Jaq's did manage to hit three from long range...but were unable to stop the Spartan on the offensive end with Jag's Big's on the bench. It's all Monday morning quarterbacking but that's how it went down at Pinole High School in the one and only NCS game for the Jag's 2011.
Player of the game was Kairon Moore of Pinole with 21 Points.

All Team Effort For WHS
On Friday night in Sonoma County, Windsor hosted El Molino in a game that, given the significant height difference between the two teams, most people thought would be a blow out. That prediction turned out to be true and it was an all around team effort for the Windsor Jaguars. After one quarter it was already 16-4 Windsor. Coach Steve Kramer appeared to take advantage of the match up and seemed to be trying out a new style of offense with the Jaguars. The guards dumped the ball into Tanner Giddings or Shane Hardisty for them to shoot or pass it back out to the outside.
At Half Windsor was up in every Category leading the Lions in Rebounds 22-8, Assists 11-3, Steals 2-1 and blocks 1-0. Not surprisingly the score was 28-10 in Windsor's favor. This game was about a team effort, Windsor's top scorer of the night was 11 from Tanner Giddings but all twelve players on the Windsor team contributed on the stat sheet. No one was the star that night everyone was a team.
At the end of three quarters the Jaguars were up 40-15, but El Molino showed significant heart in the fourth not wanting to give in and gave it their all scoring 18 points. The Lions also upped the physical tempo on the defense side of the ball for the first time in the game. Windsor ran out comfortable winners 58-33. Windsor's only Sophomore on the team Casey Myers had a solid game scoring 8 Points and having 4 Assists. Windsor's Tanner Gidding was named the Stomp Sports Player of the Game with 11 Points, 6 Rebounds, 2 Assists and 1 steal.

Monty Pulls Away Late.
Maria Carrillo's Boys Varsity was trying to do what their Girl counterparts had done the night before and that was knock off the number one ranked Montgomery Vikings. The game started out well for the Pumas and after the first quarter Maria Carrillo was up by four, 14-10. Pushed on and energized by a rowdy student section, it looked like the impossible could happen again as Monty's 6-9 Center Ben Freeland got into early Foul trouble. At half time the score remained close with the visiting Vikings on top 25-23. Freeland commented after the game that he rarely gets into foul trouble, but here it was keeping the contest close.
However reality hit hard in the first 6 minutes of the second half as the teams reverted to form and Montgomery went on a 11-0 run and effectively this sealed the deal for the Vikings. After the third quarter it was 41-34 Montgomery up and with Senior point guard Zack Templeton controlling the tempo of the game, Montgomery pulled away in the fourth cruising to a 60-41 final.
Local basketball fans got a glimpse of Empire basketball when with 2.30 to go in the first half Montgomery sent on their recently called up Freshman Alec Raven. The heralded youngster only played briefly, but in those two minutes he held his own against the seniors. This kid has a bright future in the Empire and I wouldn't be surprised if he starts next year for the Vikings. Raven said after the game about the Playoffs that "if someone's going to win it, why not us?"
Ben Freeman had 22 Points 8 Rebounds, 2 Blocks and a steal and was named the Stomp Sports Player of the Game. The senior also had an interesting perspective on the playoffs noting that he "loves upsets" and in some ways would rather play as the under dog.
Monday's game between #1 Montgomery and #2 Cardinal Newman may be an emotional affair as it is rumored that the Vikings injured team mate, Brian McCammon, will return to the bench to add support just two weeks after his serious car crash.

Casa Grande Prevails in Shootout
In the biggest game of Casa Grande's and Analy's season, you could tell in the air it was going to be a shootout. The Gym in Sebastopol that night was packed to the rim with fans old and young. You could hear the two student sections going at it all night. This felt like a playoff game atmosphere and that the loser of this match would be done until next year. However, this game meant something, the victor had the best shot at winning the Sonoma County League Championship. Kyle Powell the starting Point Guard of Casa Grande said " I am always nervous before a game, doesn't matter the opponent, from El Molino to Analy. I am nervous right up till the moment I hit the court, after that I know I am going to have a good game." That is exactly what Powell did that Wednesday night.
You could tell from the opening tip off that this game would be one of the best games this season; it did not disappoint. During most of the first quarter there was not a lot of rebounds, both teams were just not missing. Each side would run down the court and then score or there would be a steal by Kyle Powell (Casa Grade) or Max Fugii (Analy). At one point in the second quarter Analy was up by 10 points and the Casa Grande fans acted silent and scared that this could be the Gauchos first SCL loss. At half Analy was up 39-31 and was out Rebounding the Gauchos 13 to 7.
The third quarter was much the same fast paced action that the crowd had gotten used to in the first half, but Casa Grande stormed back in first four minutes to make it a 1 point game. For most of the game Analy was dominating Casa Grande in the stat book. The one stat Casa Grande won was at the Free Throw line. Casa hit 21 of 27 Free throws and that alone led them to victory. The other major head line of the game was the Flying Tigers best player Max Fugii got roughed up early and often. At one point in the third Fugii had to come out because of a huge hit on a screen attempt. The senior guard came back in after a couple minutes, but with a new bandaged wrist. Josh Hayworth of Casa Grande got a big shot late in the game while being fouled to set up a 6 point Casa lead late in the game. Casa Grande won 69-62 and only needs to win 1 more game out of the last 3 to lock up the SCL Championship and the first seed in the SCL tournament.
Kyle Powell was a major player in the game scoring 9 Points, a game high 9 Assists, 3 Rebounds and 4 huge Steals. Powell commented after the game "I really want a top seed in NCS" and with the way the 4 headed monster of Sherry, Hayworth, Rodriguez and Powell are playing, I see little doubt that they won't be a top 4 seed. Kyle Powell was named Player of the Game by Stomp Sports. Casa Grande 9-0 (19-4) and Analy 6-2 (17-5)

Youth Movement
On a slow night of High School Basketball in Sonoma County, most games were over before they began. So I took a chance and went out to watch Maria Carrillo(7-2 in League) vs Rancho Cotate(3-6 in League). The game that followed is sure to be the future of North Bay Girls Basketball. If you just look at the records you would say the Pumas would roll over Rancho Cotate in this Monday night match-up, but you would be wrong. Maria Carrillo's star player Taylor Graham tore her ACL vs Rincon Valley Christian and will have surgery next week. Taylor is done for the season. I saw Taylor all night on the bench and you could tell that the junior captain still had a major role in the leadership of this Puma team.
This game was all about a youth movement, 6 Freshmen and 5 Sophomores played tonight and showed what the North Bay League of the future will look like. The game started out as you might expect given the records. it was 19-9 at the half with Maria Carrillo on top. The Pumas used their hard defense to force six steals in this two periods. Surprisingly the Cougars were out rebounding the Pumas at half 15-14. The Cougars did not come out of the locker room flat, they came out like a team on a mission. During the first seven minutes of the third quarter Rancho Cotate went on a 10-0 run to even up the score at 19 all. Going back and forth for the rest of the game, exchanging three pointers and jump shots. In a surprising move, with 3.4 seconds left in fourth quarter Rancho Cotate decided to just hold the ball instead of going for a buzzer beater. At the end of regulation the score was 33-33. The biggest play of the overtime period was the decision of the Pumas Coach, Steven Azevedo, to not foul with 27 seconds left, no shot clock, and his team up 37-36. Rancho Cotate had the ball. Coach Azevedo believed in his defense which had caused 10 steals on the night. With 10 seconds left the Pumas did indeed cause a steal and the Cougars not looking at the clock let time run out. Maria Carrillo wins 37-36 over Rancho Cotate.

Another Thriller This Time In The Jungle
Healdburg started the game off on fire, silencing the huge Windsor Student Section. Healdsburg had 12 Points after one quarter, all on long three's. Healdsburg's fans were going crazy during this stretch of shooting mastery. The Greyhounds Joey Miller was hitting threes from every spot on the floor, he ended the night with a game high 16 points. You could feel it in the air that Windsor's Players, fans and Coach Steve Kramer were down but not out. Collin Giddings only had two points on the night, but those points changed the game in Windsors favor. Giddings drove down the baseline and Giddings slammed the ball down. This one dunk sent the whole Windsor student section into a frenzy. They would not be silenced until everyone had left the building that night. Healdsburg went to the the locker room up 19 to 14. Windsor though was up, 18 rebounds to 7 at half. Something must have happened in that locker room, Healdsburg in the second half only scored 8 points and Windsor scored 25 points in that second half. The Biggest stat in the game was Windsor out rebounded Healdsburg 47-20. A major part of those rebounds were from Windsor Junior center Tanner Giddings, who in the end had a monster game- 14 Points, 15 Rebounds, 6 Blocks and 1 Steal. Healdsburg only hit a couple of threes in the last three quarters. George Abalos came into the game in the forth quarter and hit a three to put Windsor up and Windsor never looked back. Windsor won 39-28 and Windsor stormed the court after beating their rivals. Windsor is now 5-3 in SCL play and 13-8 overall and Healdsburg is 2-5 in SCL play and 8-12 overall.

Casa Keeps Lead of SCL
Casa Grande took another big step towards winning the SCL Basketball title for 2011, with a 64-50 win over SCL 3rd ranked Windsor. Windsor battle Casa all night, even to the bitter end. Casa's three headed monster of Nick Sherry, Joey Rodriguez and Josh Hayworth had 46 of Casa's 64 points. The three point shooting of Casa really took a toll on Windsor's zone, in the end that was to much for Windsor. Windsor was about to stop Casa down low in the paint because of Windsor hight advantage, Casa countered with three point shots and physical play all night. Casa Grande in every sport plays a physical type of play and to beat Casa you must beat them at their own game. Windsor for three Quarters did this flawlessly, but in the fourth quarter, Casa went on a 9-0 run and sealed the game away. Hayworth had a quiet monster of a game- 18 points and 14 rebounds, Windsor had strong showings from Shane Hardisty, Tanner Giddings and Garret Hansen. The biggest game of the SCL year comes up on February the second, matching Casa vs Analy. Windsor faces their rival Healdsburg at home on Friday. Casa is 7-0(17-4) and Windsor is 4-3(12-8)

Windsor Holds on
Windsor hold on to beat Petaluma 53-49 on a clear Saturday night. The game started it out slow, after the first quarter it was 10-10. Windsor was highly Favorited in this contest. Most of the game Windsor didn't play to their potential. Petaluma on the other hand had one of the best games of the season. Windsor needed this win to keep its hopes of winning the SCL title. With 1 Minute left, Windsors Kameron Richardson made a couple of free throws then pick the ball handler of the ball, and Richardson stormed down court to throw down and Killer Dunk. Windsor is now 4-2 in League and Petaluma is 1-5 in SCL.

Thriller in Healdsburg
Thriller in Healdsburg
Fans shouting at each other back and forth throughout the entire match? It definatly sounds like a good old Healdsburg vs Windsor rivalry game. The competitive basketball game in Healdsburg came down to the wire. It was a heated game all night: on the court between teams; in the stands between fans: and in the atmosphere. It was Windsor's Bigs vs Healdsburg's three Point shooting. The game started off really slow, and after first half the score was only 15 to 12 Windsor in the lead. The score had not changed much from end of first quarter; the score standing at - Healdsburg 8-4. During half time there was an all out war between Windsor Students and Healdsburg students; both doing chants trying to be louder than the other side. This is what people came to see, the despute between the Healdsburg Hounds and the Windsor Jaguars. With roughly 6 minutes left, Windsor looked like they had the game in hand by being up 15 points. However, Healdsburg's spirit never failed and they fought back. With 40 seconds left, Windsor up by only 2, somehow Healdsburg had not fouled the ball handler. Windsor dribbled down the court through the whole Healdsburg Defense and scored to win the game. The Final score was 43-41. The next time, these teams play it will be a rocking show; and maybe their last match up in Sonoma County League.

Newman Shows Who's Top Dog
The Cardinal Newman Cardinals beat the Ukiah WildCats 60-48. For the majority of the game, the two teams did not seem as close as they truly were. Newman took control early and did not let it go for the entire game. Ukiah has improved from past years; however, they are not team to slack on. Newman was the top dog in this game and shows they are one of the best teams in the North Bay. The biggest moment of the game was early in the game when Ukiah's best player, Cesar Mendoza, dislocated his finger. Even though he continued to play after the dislocation, his performance blatantly suffered.

Windsor Shootout Game 8
Windsor Shootout Game 8
Windsor Defeated Alameda 61 to 35. This was a Match up on paper because of the size of Windsor. Alameda’s highest player is 6’3, Windsor’s Starting Point Guard is 6’2 but Alameda is scrappy and played like it. Alameda shocked the crowed by leading 10 to after one. Windsor played very sloppy all game, a lot of turnovers by Windsor guards. Sammy Allen, Alamedas best player tried his best but Alameda lost. Before the game Sammy said “We have to pressure their guards and swing the ball” and this is what Alameda did very well in this game, the size was just too much. Coach Kramer was quoted saying it was going to be a “Team Effort” about defending Sammy Allen.

Windsor Shootout Game 4
Windsor Defeated Fremont 64-47 in an lopsided game. The Story of this game was Fremont not changing their style of play. Fremont all game wanted to penetrate inside but because of Windsor’s big men playing zone this style was completely useless. The way to beat the Zone is three point shooting. None of the Fremont players could shoot threes. Windsor cruised to victory when Fremont’s Coach got a double Technical.

Windsor Shootaround Game 2
Zack Corby’s on FIRE
The Story of this lopsided 73-42 win for NorthGate was Zack Corby. Three after three after three, Zack Corby could not miss in this game. In The end he was 10-14 from 3. I asked Corby about how he felt about making 32 Points in the First round, he said “ it felt good” Maria Carrillo did not change their strategy, all game they stuck to the zone. Zach Corby took advantage of this weakness and let the three’s Rain. I asked Corby how he felt about his next opponent Rodriguez. Corby said, “We have to be more Aggressive with our Ball Screens and Rebounding” “we are a running team, we have to stick to it.” Corby is leading candidate for MVP of the Tournament.

Windsor Shootaround Game 1
On a Raining afternoon in Sonoma County a small Guys Basketball Tournament was being held, The Windsor Shoot.
The First Game of the Tournament waged Rodriguez vs Skyline. This game was dominated by two players, Paris Davis of Skyline and Devon Pouncey of Rodriguez. This game was fast pace. Back and forth, back and forth the game went. When all were said and done the Turnovers costed Skyline this game. These key turnovers at the worst of times gave Rodriguez the game. At the End of the game Skyline stormed back to close the lead to six late in the game. Rodriquez then pulled away to win 65-55.

Big Men vs Small Men Windsor vs Napa
Tanner Giddings
The 3-7 Napa Indians came to the 5-4 Windsor home court on December 22, 2010. On paper, these two teams looked like a mismatch; and it turns out, it was. The Windsor Jaguar line-up started out as the following: point guard of 6’0”, shooting guard of 6’5”, small forward of 6’6”, power forward of 6’7” and center of 6’9”. This compared to Napa’s Point and shooting guards of 5’10”, small forward of 5’11”, power forward of 6’2” and center of 6’5” was shocked. The first play of the game started when Tanner Giddings tipped the ball to Garrett Hansen, who then threw the ball to Collin Giddings near the hoop. Collin Giddings then tapped it in scoring 2 points in less than 5 seconds. After this moment, Windsor never gave up the lead. After the first quarter the score was 19:8, Windsor in the lead. This game, appearing to be ugly, had already been given up to Windsor. Half time rolled around and the score was 36-13. The only problem with the Jaguars’ tactics during this game was the sloppy performance delivered by the team. Many turnovers and sloppy passes added to the troubles of both teams. If the Jaguars had been against a stronger team such as Analy or Cardinal Newman, they would have lost the game. The final score was 50-29, another win for Windsor.
